History of Blessington Educate Together National School
From Tigh na nOg to the present-day school community in Blessington.
In 1967, a group of parents in Blessington wanted an alternative to the existing national school system. Diane Meek of Liffey Farm provided land, funding and support to establish the original school, which had grown to three classrooms by 1972.
Fundraising became a central part of school life and helped build a strong school community. The school was known as Tigh na nOg. In 1979, Blessington Montessori Limited negotiated purchase of the building, and in 1980 a Deed of Trust was established with parents to support continued funding.
In 2006, Blessington Educate Together National School began operating on the Red Lane site as a state-funded, multi-denominational primary school. The school continues in a child-centred and democratically run tradition in a rural setting close to Blessington Lakes.
