Active Week 2019

Active Week 2019 was a roaring success. The Active School Committee did an amazing job keeping it all going. Have a look at the video here https://www.facebook.com/BlessingtonET/videos/1223811927786525/.

What did we do?

Active Homework: For the second year running, the children only received Active homework for the week that was in it. It goes without saying the children were delighted with this! Some homework activities this week included hours on trampolines, cycling, roller skating, skateboarding, walking, dancing and swimming.

The feedback from parents about this aspect of Active Schools week has been really positive.

Active School Week Events:

Monday: The teachers swapped classes for P.E today. Jonathan played fun games with the Infants, Claire did athletics with the middle room and Conor played tag-rugby with the seniors. We started the week with our usual Active Week lunchtime disco, with tunes blaring from the school windows! It was a fantastic day and the children really enjoyed themselves.

Tuesday: Denise from Wicklow Sports gave us a fantastic day of sport, we were playing basketball matches, learning new skills and she also gave the Infants a cycling lesson. We also began our 6 week Bike Safety training today, it was excellent.

Wednesday: Shamrock Rovers paid us a visit today, with the help of Hannah & Aaron’s Dad and coach Jay. It was fantastic to see such professionalism and enthusiasm and needless to say, the children were kept on their toes.

Thursday: Blessington GAA are visited the school for taster sessions with every class. Thank you to Emer & Graham, the children loved it! Izzy & Natalie from High Definition Gym also came and played great games with us! What a great day, thank you ladies!

Friday: The Active Walkway was launched today. This is a 330m route around the school grounds for all to enjoy. We had our “Whole School FUN Event” today also. We continued our walk down Red Lane and back up to the school in time for break. The senior pupils recorded our distance and added it to our Map of Ireland, which integrates our Maths and Geography lessons.

We danced through our break time and afterwards we divided up into our Province teams. Each teacher was the manager of a Province. The four teams played against each other in basketball and soccer. Things got very competitive between the teachers! Afterwards, we had a fun afternoon playing on the school grounds with giant bouncy balls. What a lovely way to end a very enjoyable and Active Week.
