Newsletter June 2009 Principal’s
Note Hello
everyone!
We
are now at the end of another very
successful school year. It’s time to look back and enjoy the successes
of the
hard work done by absolutely everyone throughout the year. Each success
builds
a platform for more success and I’m absolutely sure that is the
direction in
which BETNS is heading. So a huge thanks to everyone: the children, the
staff,
the parents, the parents’ association, the Board of Management and
Blessington
Montessori Ltd. We
had lots of fun this year in all the
projects, competitions, lessons, sports, fundraising and out –reach
programmes.
The variety in school-life makes for a most interesting year.
Sadly
we are saying farewell to out sixth
class who have been a truly remarkable class in so many ways. We all
wish them
every success in their new secondary schools and know that they will
enjoy
great success there. They are always welcome to pop in and say hello to
let us
know how they are getting on. Warm wishes to any pupils who are moving
on too.
Our
school is growing steadily and we look
forward to September when our new infants and other students will
arrive. So
until then have a well earned rest and enjoy the promised sunshine!!!
Cheers
Rosemary Saying farewell to 6th
class It’s that time of year when we must say
farewell to our graduates when they leave us to go on to secondary school.
They’ll all be missed next year but we know they are confident and capable
pupils ready for their new schools.
The graduation will take place on Thursday
25th June at 1pm until 4.30 pm. There will be a ceremony and finger
food followed by a disco for the seniors. We are asking anyone attended if they
could bring along a plate of nibbles. All are welcome to the ceremony. Adele
and Lynn’s class will go home at the usual times. School Tours The weather behaved and a great day was had on
Adele’s class tour to Greenan Farm. The children enjoyed seeing the farm
animals (favourites included the 3 pigs named Rasher, Sausage and Pudding!),
the nature trail and games were great fun and we managed to find our way out of
the mazes… eventually! The long bus trip was fun thanks to Ariadne’s map of
sites along the way. Thanks to Agnieska, Maya, Siofra and Ariadne for their
help on the day.
Rosemary and Lynn will be having a day of adventure at Avon Ri on June 23rd.
Play Day The
children joining us in September came along on May 13th to meet their school
mates. We look forward to welcoming them in the new school year. Food Dudes The
Food Dudes Programme has been a
great success with the children excited and motivated to try fruit and
vegetables and understanding the importance of 5 a day for a healthy diet.

Sponsored
Walks Lynn and Rosemary’s
classes braved the hills on their sponsored walk up Black Hill .They had a visitor
from the local history society who told them about the history of the area.
Well done to all the ramblers!A
4th class student wrote an account of the walk… On the 12th of May the 2nd-6th class
of Blessington Educate Together National School went on a great trip-walk to
Black hill. All the children had a GREAT time. One child even said "I fell
over and even that was exciting". We all had a great laugh when our
principal Rosemary was panting at the bottom and we where halfway up. Now, an
exclusive report with a 4th class pupil,”what was the best-exiting part of the
trip?” He said,"when we got home”. “Who did you walk with?” he said
"with my three friends”. Finally “what did you do and eat when you got
home?” he said, "I got home ate pizza and relaxed.” Adele’s class went to
Russborough House and walked the trail spotting the sites along the way. Then
we had a Teddy Bear’s Picnic after our walk. The youngest members of the school
were full of energy and could have walked the distance “a zillion times”
according to one junior infant. Everest next year… Thanks to the parents
who joined us on these walks and Bridie and the PA for organising the walks.
SportsEvening Once
again the annual sports evening and BBQ was a brilliant event! It gets better
each year with new additions of a bouncy castle and Sumo wrestling (Lynn is
hoping to qualify for the World Teacher Championships). The children enjoyed
the races and the support of family and newcomers made it a great social
occasion. So many people put in huge effort in organising the event, thank you
each and everyone. Thanks
to all those who have helped with our acquisition of PE equipment. We have
great resources thanks to those who collected Super Valu tokens and other
generous parents who helped in acquiring new equipment.. From
the Parent’s Association Committee The
P.A. Committee would like to thank all parents, children, teachers and friends
for the outstanding support throughout the school year 2008/09. To all those
who gave their time, money, brain power and especially their many talents-
thank you and we hope to see as many, if not more of you , at next year’s
events and meetings. For
